Headstone Manor

Walk the Crane from source to Thames : Walk 1

Sunday 11 September 2022
09:00 to 16:00

This year FORCE are walking the length of the River Crane from its headwaters at Headstone Manor in Harrow to where it joins the Thames at Isleworth.  There will be three walks to achieve this.  It will be most interesting as we watch how the Crane changes form and use meandering through the different landscapes en route. Along the route we have invited similar partner organisations to FORCE to join the walk and intruduce us to their areas. This walk will start at Headstone Manor in Harrow.

FORCE Trustees will be travelling by Uber from Twickenham at 8-15am to Headstone Manor and start the walk at 9am. At Headstone Manor we shall take a look at their Park for Peoples Project to improve the wetlands and flood places. We shall then follow the Yeading Brook taking in the features and changes in the river. Along this walk are Friends groups for Headstone Manor, Yeading Walk, Roxbourne Park, Ickenham Marshes, plus LWT for Gutteridge & Ten Acre Woods. We end at Yeading Brook Meadows

Logistics : This is a long walk of about  10 miles / 16km over varied terrain and we expect to finish around 4pm.  We will be walking briskly as we have several sites to visit along the route. Friends of Roxbourne Park are kindly opening up their pavilion for us to buy a coffee & use their toilet, about 11am. We shall take lunch in a grassland area so please bring your own food and drinks. Do wear stout footwear and clothing suitable for the weather on that day. Booking is necessary as places are limited and so we can contact you with more details.

Travel : FORCE Trustees will be travelling by Uber from the Crane Tap pub opposite Twickenham railway station at 8-15am to Headstone Manor and start the walk at 9am. Join us at either location – travel costs not included.  North Harrow Station is about 15 minutes walk and Headstone Lane overground station is 10 minutes from Headstone Manor. At Headstone Manor we shall meet at the noticeboard beside the cafe (What3Words location is noon.duck.crazy ). We end at Yeading Brook Meadows from where you can catch an Uber home, or the train & bus from Kingshill Ave, Northolt - buses 90 then 285 or 490 return to Twickenham, Feltham area. It is possible to leave the walk at Raynors Lane / Whittingdon Way H11, at Jim O'Neill Walk in Hillingdon after 2 hours walking and Rusilip Gardens station for central line. As always TFL journey planner is very helpful.

Due to safeguarding needs all children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We look forward to seeing you !
