Volunteer to Monitor River Health in the Crane valley

Wednesday 06 March 2024
13:30 to 15:30

In 2016 Friends of the River Crane Environment (FORCE) helped to run the UK’s first “Outfall Safari” and local volunteers have been tracking the condition of around 250 surface water outfalls every few years since. Thames Water and Environment Agency staff have been using these data to remove large numbers of pollution sources from the river and we think this is a major reason why the river condition has improved recently.   The next Outfall Safari will be held this year with Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and we are looking for volunteers to sign up.   The first training day is on Wednesday 6th March.  More details below and Book Here.  Please join us and share with your networks.  Please share this information and repost the linked posts here on Twitter and Facebook using #cvoutfallsafari2024.

JOIN THE CRANE VALLEY OUTFALL SAFARI TO HELP FIND SOURCES OF POLLUTION IN YOUR RIVERS

Pollution can find its way into urban rivers via surface water outfalls (drains) as a result of misconnected plumbing. We are looking for volunteers to help conduct Outfall Safari surveys in the Crane Valley. This involves bankside surveys of stretches of a waterbody to map and record the impact of outfalls.

The surveys will take place during March-May 2024

As a volunteer, you can choose which stretch of the river and at what time to conduct the survey, within the survey period. The survey will be conducted from the riverside path, in areas that are accessible and where the river is easily visible. Training will be provided by ZSL.
